Zambia to host first-ever EU-Zambia Economic Forum

• The forum is part of a series of high-level engagements that the Head of State has been and continues to engage in.
• The goal of the forum is to generate private sector investment.
• These initiatives represent Government’s commitment to reposition Zambia as a prime investment destination.

Government says the EU-Zambia Economic Forum which will take place from 18th to 19th May, 2022 will bring together a broad range of businesses, financial institutions, innovators and policy decision makers from Zambia and member states of the European Union.

In a statement, Chief Government Spokesperson Chushi Kasanda said the forum, which will be graced by President Hakainde Hichilema, is part of a series of high-level engagements that the Head of State has been and continues to engage in to transform the country’s economy for the betterment of citizens.

Ms. Kasanda, who is also Information and Media Minister stated that the forum comes at the back of other major engagements with investors and the business community such as the recent International Mining Indaba in South Africa, the recent visit to Zambia by Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) President Felix Tshisekede, at which the joint venture for the manufacture of electric powered cars between the two countries was sealed, and the Public Private Dialogue Forum.

“These and other initiatives represent Government’s commitment to reposition Zambia as a prime investment destination for accelerated economic growth and development. The event will include high-level presentations, Business-to-Business (B2B) meetings, Business-to-Government (B2G) meetings, exhibitions and workshops.”

“During the Business-to-Business meetings, EU companies will have an opportunity to meet one-on-one with Cabinet Ministers representing various sectors among them Manufacturing, Agriculture, Green Economy, Transport and Logistics, Information, Communications Technology and Water Development and Sanitation. Others are Energy, Tourism, Infrastructure and Urban Development and Small and Medium Enterprises,” Ms. Kasanda revealed.

She explained that the goal of the forum is to generate private sector investment, business opportunities and partnerships that foster economic growth through exploring sustainable products and services.

The Minister further said African Union (AU) Commissioner for Economic Development, Trade, Industry and Mining, Ambassador Albert Muchanga is expected to be one of the key speakers at the Forum to be officially opened by President Hichilema.

“Others will be the EU Commissioner for Agriculture Mr. Janusz Wojciechowski, EU Head of Delegation to Zambia Jacek Jankowski and Bankers Association of Zambia president Mizinga Melu, among others,” she stated.

Zambia will host the first-ever EU-Zambia Economic Forum from 18th to 19th May, 2022 at the Mulungushi International Conference Center in Lusaka, under the theme: ‘Economic Transformation through Green Growth’
