Zambia will soon become an electricity hub – Mutayachalo

Former General Secretary for the National Energy Sector and Allied Workers Unions says Zambia will soon become an electricity hub following the massive investment in the energy sector by the government.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News Yotum Mutayachalo says the upgrading of a number of hydro power station in the country will enable Zambia to be self-sufficient in terms of power generation.
“The government should take advantage of the power deficit in the region and benefit from foreign exchange.”
Mr Mutayachalo says the county will soon be a major exporter of electricity in the Southern Africa which will result in economic development as the country will benefit from foreign exchange.
“Electricity is critical for any country’s economic development, hence the need for government to speed up the process of connecting rural communities in the country.”
Mr Mutayachalo has since bemoaned the slow pace at winch rural communities are being connected to the national grid in the country.
He has since urged the Rural Electricity Authority REA to double its efforts in connecting the rural community to the national grid.
