Zambia’s Agri-production reduces due to weather

The Indaba Agricultural Policy Research Centre IAPRI says there has been a reduction in agriculture production in the last 5 years in the country.
IAPRI Research Assistant Mulako Kabisa says this is because of the weather patterns that the country has been experiencing.
She however says in an interview that there has been a production increase in the year 2018 as compared to 2017 when the country experienced prolonged Dry Spells.
Ms. Kabisa has since noted the need to invest in irrigation Technology as well as in early warning systems.
She says approximately over 80 percent of Zambia’s productions are rain fed hence whether patterns have a bearing on agricultural income and crop production.
The Research assistance explains that sometimes whether predictions are made into the season and people do not have enough time to prepare well for a season.
Ms. Kabisa further explains that the country’s ability to produce as much as it needs and to get gainful income from Agriculture produce is affected by the whether patterns.
