Zambia’s fourth participation at the African Nations Championship has suffered a setback following the Confederation of African Football’s decision to postpone the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) that was initially scheduled for April 2020 in Cameroon to next year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The decision was made public in the aftermath of Tuesday’s CAF Executive Committee meeting held by video conference to discuss key issues about the continent’s football.
The new developments now mean that the 16 nation tournament which was scheduled for April 4 to 25, 2020 will take place from January 15 to 29, 2021.
The sixth edition of the CHAN will kick-off on 15th January, 2021 with Cameroon facing Zimbabwe and will run for two weeks across four cities in Cameroon.
Zambia finished third in 2009 and has been quarter-finalists in the other two editions they have participated in. They will be taking part in their fourth tournament in Cameroon.
Earlier this year, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) appointed Serbian gaffer Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic as Chipolopolo coach and was poised to take charge of the locally assembled squad after going on a countrywide selection process which culminated into a friendly match against Malawi.
The CHAN tournament is exclusively for players plying their trade in their domestic championships on the African continent.
