Zamtel launches ‘ZamPay’

The Ministry of Transport and Communication says the use of information and communication Technologies is of great importance to the promotion of sustainable national economic development.
Speaking at the Zamtel launch of ZamPay a new payment solution which will only require customers to scan a QR code using their mobile phones in order to buy an item, Minister of Transport and Communications Brian Mushimba says government welcomes innovative such as ZamPay because they contribute positively to government’s goal of increasing access to financial services in the country.
“ZamPay will undoubtedly bring efficiencies in the way businesses are managed in the country. Embracing digital payment solutions like ZamPay will fast track government’s efforts towards achieving a cashless culture and economy,” he said.
He adds that the launch of ZamPay is a clear demonstration of the role that digitization has to play in charging the lifestyle of the Zambian people.
He says the launch of ZamPay will go a long way in addressing the financial gaps currently being experienced in the country especially in rural areas.
He states that the new payment system will help a number of large and small business in the country reduce on the cost of doing business by improving controls at the point of transactions.
And speaking at the same event Zamtel Chief Executive Officer Sydney Mupeta says Zamtel has embarked on a transformational journey towards digitization and will be coming up with innovative products and services which are relevant and convenience to the lives of the Zambian people.
He says ZamPay answers to the governments call to increase financial inclusion for both people living in both the rural and urban areas of the country.
