State-owned Telecommunication Company says it is targeting to empower youth led local Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with business opportunities through the roll out of mini-shops.
Speaking ahead of Youth Day celebrations, Zamtel Corporate Communications Manager Changwe Kabwe disclosed to Money FM News that this is why the Company has so far opened 72 mini shops countrywide as it seeks to boost its distribution network.
Mr. Kabwe said further opportunities for job creation for young people will be created as 250 more mini-shops are earmarked to be opened this year.
“On the occasion of Youth Day, we wish to celebrate young Zambian entrepreneurs that are seizing opportunities that our mini-shops roll out is providing. We continue partnering with these young people to deliver our products and services closer to our customer,” Mr Kabwe said.
He urged the youth especially those in the rural areas to take advantage of existing opportunities and partner with the Company to create jobs for themselves in their respective communities, by opening mini-shops as a way of extending banking services to the unbanked population.
“Through these partnerships, we have created a value chain that is providing immense opportunities for young people to run businesses and create wealth for themselves and their communities,” he added.
