Zambia National Education Coalition (ZANEC) has urged District Human Resource Management Committees (DHRMCs) to ensure transparency in the selection of teachers who have applied for the 30, 000 jobs in the education sector.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, ZANEC Executive Director George Hamusunga said the Committees must give an opportunity to all teachers to be selected and avoid corrupt activities.
Mr. Hamusunga also advised the security wings that are overseeing the teacher selection process to conduct themselves in a professional manner and see to it that right teachers are picked this time around.
He further urged the applicants to exercise patience and avoid inducing those that will be processing their papers to have their names selected.
“We know that the security wings are overseeing this process, and therefore we would like to urge those that are involved to ensure that they do their work in a professional manner and avoid getting entangled in corrupt practices, because we expect them to do this professionally and ensure that the right teachers are picked.”
“Ministry of Education, Teaching Council of Zambia and Teaching Service Commission have made it very clear that this process has to be done in a manner that will ensure that there is credibility in the selection process, without which whoever will be found to have engaged in malpractices is definitely going to be dealt with. We want really to see our democracy, we want to see our decentralization start working and work efficiently and we want the people to have a lot of hope in the way things are done at local level,” Mr. Hamusunga stated.
Meanwhile, Mr. Hamusunga commended Ministry of Education and Teaching Service Commission for successfully completing the process of receiving applications from the various applicants.
He noted that the extension of the application period gave an opportunity for all potential teachers to be to have an opportunity to apply for the advertised jobs.
“We are also happy for instance we noted that the post office services were very efficient with most of the applicants receiving confirmation of the receipt of the application by the various authorities meaning that they are able to track the applications and now they are assured their applications are in the right hands,” he noted.
Over 99,000 teachers have so far applied for jobs following the advertisement of teacher recruitment by Government and the teachers are expected to be employed by June this year.
