ZAPRA calls for implementation of Communication Policy

• UPND Government must implement the Communication Policy launched in 2020.
• New government must appoint and elevate Public Relations professionals in all Government Ministries.
• Mr. Hichilema’s election is reassuring to Zambian communicators.

Zambia Public Relations Association (ZAPRA) has urged the incoming government to implement the Communication Policy which was launched last year.
Association President Irene Chipili told Money FM News that implementation of the Policy will ensure that the provision of Government information is consistent and timely.
Ms. Chipili said the Association is hopeful that the President Elect, Hakainde Hichilema will create a favorable environment to support communicators and elevate Public Relations practice in all public and private sectors of the country.
“Mr. Hichilema’s election is reassuring to Zambian communicators as UPND has committed to enacting a consultatively established Freedom of Information Act in its 2021 to 2026 party manifesto. The party has further committed to promoting national unity and media diversity,” Ms. Chipili said.
Ms. Chipili further advised the new regime to consider appointing and elevating Public Relations professionals in all Government Ministries, agencies, Local Authorities and other institutions.
She congratulated Mr. Hichilema for emerging victorious in the August 12, 2021 general elections.
“The Association is positive that the new government will support and propel the enactment into law, of the Zambia Institute of Public Relations and Communication (ZIPRAC) bill which is currently with the Ministry of Justice,” she stated.
President Elect, Hakainde Hichilema will be sworn in on Tuesday next week as Zambia’s 7th Republican President after his landslide victory in the August 12 elections.
