The ZCCM- Investment Holdings in collaboration with the Esther Lungu Foundation has handed over a borehole and 200 bags of 50Kg fertilizer worth K150, 000 to the people of Masashe in Chief Lumpuma’s chiefdom of Lufwanyama district.
Speaking during the handover ceremony ZCCM-IH Acting Chief Executive Officer Mabvuto Chipata said the water project was one of the Corporate Social Responsibility of drilling boreholes in areas with little or no access to clean and safe water.
Mr Chipata said in the fight to bring safe and clean water to communities, ZCCM-IH has sunk boreholes in some provinces in the country as such Eastern, Southern, Lusaka, Copperbelt and Northern provinces.
He said the 200 bags of fertilizers donation will go to all women groups in the area as way of empowering them
He disclosed that ZCCM-IH is targeting to grow its presence and investment not only on the copperbelt but also other parts of the country where mining activities are taking place adding that ZCCM-IH has diversified it’s interest in mining, energy, real estate and other sectors of the economy.
Mr Chipata revealed that ZCCM-IH is looking for a partner to develop a parcel of land in Lufwanyama as the company believes that such an investment in the area will play a catalytic role in spurring growth hence creating employment and improvement of local economy.
And First Lady Esther Lungu in a speech read for her by Lufwanyama District Commissioner Miniva Mutesa commended ZCCM-IH for the consistence in the implementation of clean and safe water projects in the country.
Mrs. Lungu said the water project will be spread to other areas in the country as clean water plays a pivotal role in combating disease burden in the community adding that access to clean water will drastically improve water bone diseases hence improving livelihoods.
