ZCSA, Council destroy over 2, 000 bottles of fruit flavoured drinks

The seized products have violated Section 15 and 21 of the Compulsory Standards Act No. 3 of 2017.
● They have been disposed of through a Court Order.

Authorities will continue conducting joint enforcement activities in a bid to ensure that only safe products are allowed on the market.

Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) and Shiwang’andu Town Council in Muchinga Province have seized and destroyed 2, 251 bottles of fruit flavoured drinks valued at K46, 505 supplied on the market illegally.

In a joint statement, ZCSA Head of Communications Brian Hatyoka and Council Public Relations Officer, Mutemwa Sakala said the seized products which include Jangle Orange, Jangle Pine Apple and Jangle Granadilla brands have been disposed of through a Court Order issued on 22nd November, 2023 by Shiwang’andu Magistrate’s Court.

Mr. Hatyoka and Mr. Sakala added that the seized products violated Section 15 and 21 of the Compulsory Standards Act No. 3 of 2017, Public Health Act Cap 295 Section 108 and the Food Safety Act No. 7 of 2019, section 43, (a), (g), (k), and (i), of the laws of Zambia.

They warned of stern action against entities which are manufacturing and supplying beverages on the market without complying with the laws of Zambia.

“This is because such products whose safety has not been ascertained may pose a risk to public safety and health. The authorities will continue conducting joint enforcement activities in a bid to ensure that only safe products are allowed on the market,” they said.

The duo also urged Consumers to buy products from reputable sources and report any suspicious product to authorities.

In May 2023, officers from Shiwan’gandu Town Council, ZCSA and the Ministry of Health intercepted a truck carrying Fruit Flavoured Drinks from Lusaka.
