• Brazil’s corporate sector to explore investment opportunities in Zambia in various sectors.

Zambia’s Ambassador to Brazil says Zambia is currently promoting export-oriented industrialization policies with economic diversification and job creation to be attained through public and private investments in the agriculture, tourism, mining, energy and manufacturing sectors at large.
Speaking when she chaired a virtual meeting on the preliminary discussions by Zambia Development Agency (ZDA), Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) and Brazilian Commercial Association of the Federal District (ACDF) on Trade and Investment, Dr. Alfreda Kansembe Mwamba said the discussions are significant to economic relations between Zambia and Brazil.
Dr. Kansembe stated that the cooperation will stimulate more direct interactions between the business communities in the two countries.
She urged Brazil’s corporate sector to explore investment opportunities in Zambia in various sectors such as pharmaceuticals and Agricultural technology as the county is land linked to eight countries making it easy to access other markets in the SADC and COMESA region.
“We are urging Brazil’s corporate sector to go to Zambia with your pharmaceuticals, Agricultural equipment and make it a hub to reach the rest of Africa because we are land linked to 8 countries.”
“It is therefore my hope that through this meeting, we will be able to discuss areas of cooperation that will not only strengthen our bilateral ties but translate into tangible results that will enhance trade and investment relations,” Dr. Kansembe stated.
And ZACCI Chief Executive Officer Phil Daka said the country is prioritizing Agriculture, Energy, Construction and Tourism as key investment sectors for economic recovery, growth and industrialization.
Mr Daka stated that the Chamber is looking forward to cooperating with ACDF as he acknowledged that technology advancement is critical in the development of E-commerce and other economic sectors.
Mr. Daka stressed that Zambia and Brazil must engage in discussions that will culminate into a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), following the successful Trade and Investment negotiations held between the two nations so far.
“We have food process and quite a lot of industries that can’t do away or that thrive without the aspect of technology,” Mr. Daka said.
Meanwhile, President of the Brazilian Commercial Association of the Federal District Fernando Brites said his Association has been seeking the development of commercial relations between Brazil and African countries through import and export of various products and services in line with Brazil’s Foreign Policy.
Mr Brites indicated that his Association has been working with seven African countries under a project called “Africanidades” to promote trade among entrepreneurs, startups, farmers, students and governmental agents.
This is contained in a statement issued by First Secretary for Press and Public Relations at the Zambian Embassy in Brazil, Grace Makowane.
