Zesco Limited says it will effect load management beginning 1st June 2019 following water levels at its lowest after the el Niño induced drought hit the southern part of the country.
According to the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) Weekly Brief, issued to Money FM News, the 2019 load shedding will be lasting up to 4 hours every day due to the country having a deficit of 250 megawatts as a result of low water levels.
The report says the country will only be able to generate 392 megawatts between April and December 2019.
Zesco Limited says the current low water levels the implications are that the utility will have a deficit on its capacity to generate and supply power to all sectors of the economy across the country.
Zesco says in view of the power deficit it would commence load management to restrict supply immediately.

Zesco Limited met with various stakeholders in Lusaka and the Copperbelt stating the inevitable and consulted on how the load management would be rolled out depending on specific sectors with options to have daily on weekly load shedding, which would also determine the number of hours depending on the system agreed upon.
