Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) says it has fined three Mobile Network Operators a total of K5.4 million for failure to adhere to the Quality of Service Guidelines the Authority issued in April and June this year.
Speaking to Money FM News, Authority Manager for Corporate Communications Ngabo Nankonde said the fined mobile operators are Airtel Zamtel and Mtn Zambia Limited.
Ms. Nankonde disclosed that Airtel has been fined K4. 8 million for failing to meet call setup success rate in Chipata, Lusaka and Kalulushi, the drop rate in Ndola, Chipata and Lusaka among others.
“Zamtel has been fined K450, 000 for failure to meet call setup success rate in Chipata, Kitwe and Lusaka and HTTP Successful Internet Log-ins in Chingola, Chipata and Kitwe. MTN has been fined 225, 000 for failing to meet the HTTP Successful Internet Log-in in Chipata, Ndola and Chisamba.”
“In imposing the fines, ZICTA took into account the MNOs efforts to improve the quality of service on their respective networks. The fines were imposed on the MNOs on August 26, 2020 and a period of 7 days was given within which the MNOs should pay the fines. ZCITA further warned the MNOs that continued breach of the Quality of Service Guidelines will result in further enforcement action,” Ms. Nankonde stated.
She added that the Authority will continue to conduct the Quality of Service monitoring inspections in the various parts of the country.
“Consumers are encouraged to continue reporting to ZICTA incidents of poor quality of service experienced, specifying the location and the time they experienced poor quality service,” she added.
