ZRA smashes another meat transit fraud worth over 408 thousand kwacha.

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has unearthed another transit fraud smuggling case worth over K408 thousand barley three days when they intercepted 50 trucks carrying Ethanol, Cooking oil and Salaula worth K42.3 million in taxes.

In a statement issued to Money FM News ZRA Corporate and Communications Manager Topsy Sikalinda says facts of the matter are that the meat products purported to be transiting for Democratic Republic of Congo when in fact they are being offloaded at a farm named Ilobezi Zambia Limited located between Mazabuka and Monze.

Mr Sikalinda says since the goods are perishable by nature, the Commissioner General has decided to invoke the provisions of the customs and excise Act cap 322 which empowers him to dispose all perishable goods.

“We have decided to donate these goods to the security wings as follows; Zambia Army will get 350 boxes, Zambia Airforce will get 250 boxes, Zambia National Service will get 250 boxes, Zambia Correctional Services will get 250 boxes” He said.

“We have also donated to the University Teaching Hospital 200 boxes and Levy Hospital will get 82 boxes”.
