ZUTDAW disappointed with Kapiri Mposhi Council.

Zambia Union of Tanker Drivers and Allied Workers has expressed disappointment over the move by Kapiri Mposhi Municipal Council to demand for council levy from them.

Union Vice President Vincent Shamilimo told Money FM News that upon entry from the border posts truckers pay between K100 and K150 to the council, questioning they should be subjected to another payment at Kapiri Mposhi local authority.
“We pay toll gate and council levy, which is later deducted from our salaries by our employers a situation that disadvantages us as truckers” Mr Shamilimo said.
He emphasized that the drivers have refused to accept the levy being demanded at Kapiri council challenging the municipal council to impound their trucks.

“As a Union we have instructed all the drivers not to comply with the demand because it is only a burden from our end” He said.
Mr Shamilimo said the truckers are still waiting for the outcome of negotiations from government over their grievances concerning slave wages.

He adds that the Union feels that it is not in order for them to be paying leviesto Kapiri Mposhi council when the issue of wages has not yet been concluded.
“We wish to suggest to the local authorities in the country to come up with parking yards that will have places for truckers to park their trucks, freshen up and rest, only then will we pay for those services, otherwise the levy are not welcome” He explained.
