Zambia’s Ambassador to the United States has revealed that Zambia exported 183 million dollars’ worth of goods to the US and imported goods amounting to 195 million dollars in 2018.
Ambassador Ngosa Simbyakula says the imports include aircraft, machinery and vehicles while top exports include copper, precious metals, emeralds, iron and steel. And there is still room for tremendous growth.
Mr. Simbyakula has advised US firms to consider partnering with Zambia on commercial grounds, beyond the diplomatic ties that the two countries share.
He says the partnerships would benefit both countries profitably considering the history shared.
The diplomat has noted that Zambia has various areas that are ready for investment including energy and extractive industries, tourism and e-commerce, agriculture and infrastructure.
Mr. Simbyakula adds Zambia has taken steps to facilitate private sector investments in its renewable energy sector with the effects of global climate change hitting Africa the most.
He has cited General Electric, a US firm that has been awarded a contract of a $4 billion commission along with Zimbabwe to build a massive 2400-megawatt hydropower project in the Batoka Gorge.
