2019 national budget supported

The Golden Progressive Party says the new mining tax regime as announced by the government will increase Government revenue resonating well with the majority Zambians.

Party leader Jackson Silavwe has also welcomed the new tax regime on casino, lottery, betting and gaming.
Mr. Silavwe says though welcome, Government through responsible state institutions must impose strict regulations to curb underage patronage rampant in compounds.

He says this measure has also moved in broadening the tax base in baby steps.

“The review of all tax exemptions is also welcome. Zambians are of the view that tax exemptions have been grossly manipulated by businesses of foreign origin,” he said.

He also commends the government for the proposed reforms to scrutinise investment proposals prior to inclusion in the budget.

He adds that this will increase feasibility and efficiency in implementation of public projects.

“The creation or operationalising of the land management authority (LMA) to deal with all matters of land management and titling is also another welcome move. Land management in Zambia has been extremely chaotic with ruling party cadres illegally allocating land with impunity,” he submitted.

Mr. Silavwe is of the view that the measures outlined in the energy sector will benefit the Zambian people once maturity is achieved.

He further adds that the various investments in this sector must be commended.
