2020 has been a challenging year for Energy Sector – Expert

An Energy Expert observes that 2020 has been a very challenging year for the energy sector in the country.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Yotam Mtayachalo said this is because the country experienced a number of uncertainties especially in the electricity sub-sector.
Mr. Mtayachalo stated that the year saw unprecedented load management, which has greatly affected many sectors of the economy, due its serious negative consequences.
“We are all alive to the fact that 2020 was a difficult year for the energy sector. The country experienced a lot of ups and downs particularly in the electricity sub-sector. We saw unprecedented load shedding, which has greatly affected many economic sectors. And as a result of the same, the economy has contracted,” Mr. Mtayachalo stated.
He however said government has tried its level best to stabilize the sector, adding that President Edgar Lungu must be commended for showing political will in ensuring that there is more investment in the energy sector.
“However, it is gratifying that government has tried its level best, I think President Lungu must be given a pat at the back for showing political will in ensuring that there is more investment in the energy sector,” he said.
