Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka on the Statistics of the Provisional Register of Voters, Commission Chief Electoral Officer Patrick Nshindano says the figure has been arrived at following the de-duplication of the provisional voters’ register.
Mr Nshindano explained that this represents a 0.2 percent marginal reduction from the initial 83.4 percent to 83.2 percent of eligible voters, from the Seven Million, Twenty Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty Nine voters that the Commission registered after the voter registration exercise.
He stated that of the total registered voters, 3,739,971 are female representing 53.4% while 3,262,422 are male representing 46.6% indicating that female voters are a majority as they account for 53.4% compared to 44.6 % of the male.
“After de-duplication, the provisional register now stands at 7,002, 393 registered voters representing 0.2% marginal reduction from the initial 83.4% to 83.2% of eligible voters arising from duplicate records,” Mr Nshindano noted.
He said at provincial level, Lusaka Province accounts for the highest number of registered voters at 17.7 percent, while North-western Province is the lowest at 5.5 percent.
“At provincial level, Lusaka Province accounts for the highest number of registered voters representing 17.7% whilst North-Western is lowest at 5.5% of the total provisional register of voter and Western Province accounts for the highest number of female registered voters which stands at 59% of the provincial provisional registered voters,” he added.
Mr Nshindano further said the response from the electronic inspections of voter register details has been very overwhelming.
