72 Patients on Oxygen Support as Covid-19 Cases Surge

Zambia has recorded 850 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours with five deaths, the Ministry of Health has revealed.
According to the Daily Status update, Lusaka has 488 cases with two brought in dead (BIDs) case, while Kitwe, Livingstone and Mongu have one death each.
Ndola has 47 cases, 33 from Zimba, 30 from Chisamba, 28 in Choma, 27 in Katete, 26 in Kabwe, 42 from Chipata, 23 in Livingstone, 21 from Solwezi, 16 in Mongu, 15 from Monze, 14 from Mazabuka and 10 cases in Mansa.
Kafue has 8 cases, with Chingola, Kabompo and Nyimba each recording 7 cases.
And Minister of Health, Dr. Chitalu Chilufya has urged citizens to enhance their adherence to COVID-19 preventive measures if the country is to fight the surge in COVID-19 cases.
‘‘There is low compliance to Covid-19 guidelines as many people are going into town with face masks that are only covering their shin,’’ he said.
‘‘You are only putting on a mask when it covers your nose as you cannot inhale the corona virus.’’
He further disclosed that 72 COVID-19 patients are currently on oxygen support.
‘‘If the continued rise in community transmission is not stopped, health facilities are going to be overwhelmed,’’ Dr. Chilufya said.
