• Every single district has received the farming inputs.
• I have not received any single complaint.
• 2019/2020 farming season, Copperbelt was number four in terms of maize production.
The Copperbelt Provincial administration says government has successfully completed the distribution of farming inputs for the 2020/2021 farming season in the province.
Provincial Permanent Secretary Bright Nundwe told Money FM News in an interview that his office has not received any complaint regarding the delivery of inputs, stating that all the districts have been given their share.
Mr. Nundwe noted that during the last farming season, Copperbelt Province was fourth in terms of maize production, number one in sweet potatoes, and second in soya bean production.
He said residents in the region have come to realize that farming is the only way to go, as guided by President Edgar Lungu on the need to diversify the Copperbelt economy.
“His Excellency the President of Zambia with his cabinet profoundly has delivered the farm inputs to the Copperbelt on time.99.9 percent, every single district has received the farming inputs. I have not received any single complaint.”
“You need to realize that last year alone, that is 2019/2020 farming season, Copperbelt was number four in terms of maize production, beating six provinces, sweet potatoes Copperbelt was number one, Soya beans Copperbelt was number two. The people on the Copperbelt have realized that farming is serious business. We were given a very firm and solid directive by his Excellency the President that we need to diversify the economy of the Copperbelt,” Mr. Nundwe said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nundwe observed that over dependency on minerals such as Copper should not be the case despite the commodity being the country’s major export earner, but that agriculture should be the mainstay of the economy.
“The reliance on minerals should not be the case, as much as we need such a sector, we still need the mining sector, but the President is saying let us do a lot in terms of farming, let agriculture be the mainstay for the economy of this country and the people of the Copperbelt have learnt a lot.”
“You go to every single district, people are doing serious farming, whether it is in Kitwe or Mufulira, although prominently it is in Lufwanyama, Mpongwe, Masaiti and areas of Ndola rural. But I can tell you people are doing extremely well in terms of farming and these are the things people ought to appreciate,” he stated.
