Zamtel’s customer base grows to 2.5 million

The Ministry of Transport and Communications says Zamtel’s customer base as at 31st December, 2018 stood at 2.5 million subscribers.
Transport and Communications Minister Brian Mushimba says out of this number, 2, 190 subscribers are postpaid mobile customers while 2 million 553 thousand 719 are prepaid mobile subscribers.
Mr. Mushimba says the telecommunication company is this year expected to construct 400 communication towers which will result an additional of 1.3 million customers.
Mr. Mushimba says this represents 16.5 percent market share.
The Transport and Communications Minister said this in parliament when he responded to a question from Msanzala Member of Parliament Peter Daka who wanted to know Zamtel’s customer base and measures the Government is taking to broaden the customer base.
“Mr. Speaker, as at 31st December 2018, Zamtel’s customer base stood at 2, 550, 009. Postpaid mobile subscribers was at 2, 190, as for prepaid mobile subscribers was at 2, 553, 719,” he said.
He says in 2016 the customer base for the company was 1, 241, 834, in 2017 it increased to 2, 181, 934 and that in 2018 it increased to 2, 555, 909.
Mr. Mushimba states that last year the company rolled out 276 communication sites and that this resulted in additional of 270, 510 subscribers added to the network.
