The Ministry of Labour and Social Security says it is engaging the mine owners and labour unions to revise the minimum wage in the mining sector.
Labour Minister Joyce Nonde says the consultations will culminate into the holding of the tripartite labour council as required by the law over the revision of minimum wages in the mining sector.
Ms Nonde says minimum wages are critical to overcome challenges such as poverty and inequality.
She says government remains committed to ensuring that the workers not only in the mining sector but others as well receive fair wages.
“Government has commenced consultations with the mine owners in partnership with relevant labour unions in order to revise the minimum wages in the mining sector,” she said.
The Labour Minister also warns companies that are not complying with the revised minimum wages to ensure that they pay their workers in accordance with the minimum wage framework.
