The Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure Development says it plans to construct a railway line from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport to Lusaka’s Central Business District.
Housing and Infrastructure Development Ronald Chitotela has told parliament that this will be under the Lusaka Mass Transit Train project.
Mr. Chitotela says a feasibility study was done and completed in 2017 over the possibility of constructing the airline from the KKI Airport to CBD.
Mr. Chitotela could not however disclose when this project will commerce as relevant authorities are still studying this development.
He has also highlighted that his ministry has plans to revamp the local railway lines in a bid to improve on transport system within the city.
Mr. Chitotela was responding to a question from Kantanshi Member of Parliament Anthony Mumba who wanted to know if the government has any plans to construct a railway line from the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport to the Central Business District of Lusaka.
Mr. Mumba also wanted to know if so, when the plans will be implemented; and if there are no such plans, what measures will be taken to facilitate the movement of passengers to and from the Airport when it becomes the transport hub for the region.
