ZACCI expects Zambia Airways to offer affordable rates

• ZACCI welcomes the reintroduction of the national airline.
• The airline must within the early months inter-link travel options across the provincial capitals nationwide, and at affordable rates.
• ZACCI does not expect to see carriers between towns with few passengers or empty seats.

Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) has called for good corporate governance tenets to be at the centre of Zambia Airways’ operations, strategic planning and growth.

Chamber President Dr. Chabuka Kawesha told Money FM News that the institution welcomes the reintroduction of the national airline and expects it to inter-link travel options across the provincial capitals nationwide and at affordable rates within the early months of operation.

Dr. Kawesha stressed the need for the airline to work on volume and ensure that its business plans are adequately met.

“The airline must work on volume and all being equal given all parameters are well managed. The triple ‘A’ strategy embracing Availability, Accessibility and Affordability is essential to the viability and success of this airline venture,” Dr. Kawesha said.

He added that the Chamber does not expect to see carriers between towns with few passengers or empty seats on account of high cost of air tickets.

Meanwhile, Dr. Kawesha said government’s business approach and messaging from is encouraging for investment opportunities and partnerships, therefore the need to ensure affordability of air tickets.

“Move us affordably, and with quality and high level of customer care. We equally look at Zambia Airways aiming at on-boarding the locals through a public listing on the local stock exchange, the Lusaka Securities Exchange (LUSE) in its investment strategy.”

“Local participation will not only increase accountability and responsibilities but drive local interest and investment in the project,” he noted.

Zambia Airways will get back to the skies on 1st December, 2021, with its initial domestic flights from Lusaka to Ndola.
