• Lack of interest from people living with albinism to apply for empowerment funds is worrying
• AFZ to conduct an introspection on why people living with Albinism did not take part in CDF
• These people were encouraged to form cooperatives but no one showed interest
Albinism Foundation of Zambia (AFZ) has bemoaned a lack of interest from people living with albinism to apply for empowerment funds under Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Executive Director John Chiti told Money FM News that the Foundation wants to conduct an introspection on why people living with Albinism did not take part in applying for Empowerment funds under the Constituency Development Fund this year.
Mr. Chiti stated that it is disheartening that so far people living with albinism have not made an application to benefit from the CDF of which some can utilize it to change their livelihood.
He said the foundation is concerned as it is not sure on what has caused this stating the need why the foundation wants to engage all stakeholders and see how best people with albinism can be encouraged to apply next year.
“Applying for fund empowerment under CDF will be a good opportunity for persons living with albinism to venture in various businesses and stop waiting on Government for jobs,” he said.
Mr. Chiti praised the Zambian government for the various interventions that it is putting in place to improve the welfare of the vulnerable in society.
He since called on other stakeholders to come on board and supplement Government’s efforts as Government alone cannot manage to respond to all the needs of people.
