Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) says Agriculture, forestry, fisheries and livestock remain the highest employing sectors of the country’s economy.
Union President Jervis Zimba told Money FM News that the sectors contribute over 28% employment to the country, and further growth entails more jobs being created, thereby increasing the number of people earning a living wage.
Mr. Zimba stated that a flourishing agriculture sector speaks to economic growth, which underlines what the Union believes in.
“ZNFU wishes to congratulate President Elect of the Republic of Zambia Mr. Hakainde Hichilema on his resounding victory in the 12th August 2021 elections.”
“The ZNFU has no doubt that with President Hichilema’s strong agricultural background, the country’s agricultural sector should brace to head towards a reduction in the cost of inputs and real growth in production and productivity,” Mr. Zimba said.
He assured Mr. Hichilema that the agriculture sector will closely collaborate with his government to ensure agriculture growth, increased production and productivity.
“The agriculture sector in general and the ZNFU in particular, will collaborate closely with your government to ensure agriculture growth, increased production and productivity and producer empowerment are attained,” he stated.
