FODEP calls for professionalism in State Institutions

• State institutions must work in accordance with the provisions of the law.
• Sanity in the country will start by delinking state institutions from the control of the Executive.
• Previously, the Executive had a hand in the operations of state institutions.

Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) has urged state institutions to be professional in their operations.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, FODEP Executive Director George Chimembe also stressed the need to delink state institutions from the control of the Executive in order to restore sanity in the country.
Mr. Chimembe said state institutions must work in accordance with the provisions of the law in order to uphold the rule of law.
“We need sanity in our Republic and it will start by delinking these state institutions from the control of the Executive because what we saw previously is that the Executive had a hand in the operations of these state institutions and so they were not working autonomously, they would wait for instructions from the Executive and that rendered these state institutions unprofessional in the way they were conducting themselves,” Mr. Chimembe said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Chimembe commended the move by Auditor General’s Office to conduct a Special audit on the utilization of resources towards the August 12 general elections.
“As FODEP we do welcome that pronounce from the President Elect first of all and Auditor General’s office. We saw a lot of money, where were these people getting the money from? So we need proper investigation, we need proper interrogation so that money which was stolen from Zambians is paid back and the culprits are sent to jail so that this will be a deterrent to the government that is taking office,” he stated.
Yesterday, Auditor General Dick Sichembe disclosed that his office will be conducting a special audit on the utilization of resources towards the elections.
He said the move is in line with the mandate of his office as stipulated in Article 250 of the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No. 2 of 2016, Public Audit Act No. 13 of 1994 and the Public Finance Management Act No.1 of 2018.
