• There will be high demand for Avocado in the country once Avocado plant is set up
• The Avocado plant machine will be used to extract oil from avocado
• Over 30 thousand Avocado trees have been planted across the country so far.
Avocado Growers Association said there will be high demand for Avocado in the country once the association’s plans to set up an avocado processing plant at the Zambia Cooperative Federation trading center in Lusaka materialize.
Speaking to Money FM News in an interview, Association Secretary Special Lungu explained that the Avocado plant machine will be used to extract oil from avocado.
“Most of our Avocado is sold to fresh mark and they only take products that weight more than 258 grams and the rest goes to waste, so with the coming of the processing plant, no avocado will go to waste as it will be used for oil,” he said.
Mr Lungu noted that the machinery will be ordered by the Avocado Growers Association of Zambia but the ZCF trade Centre will provide the funds.
Mr Lungu also stated that over 30 thousand Avocado trees have been planted across the country and are expected to start producing fruits soon.
“Right now one Avocado is trading at 5kwacha 50 Ngwee Order price while traders are selling in the range of 7 Kwacha and 20 Kwacha one,” he said.
He said the Avocado industry has this year performed better than last year but is expected to perform extremely well next year as trees have a lot of avocado on them.
Mr Lungu has called on more farmers to venture in the Avocado growing industry as it is an income generation business.
