A Non-Governmental Organization says inclusion of women and people living with disabilities in key governance positions is critical in the incorporation of minority groups and building stable democracies.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Born Short Living Tall (BSLT) Executive Director Ntalasha Chisha thanked President Hakainde Hichilema for appointing Christine Chama as Human Rights Commissioner.
Mr. Chisha stated that Ms. Chama’s appointment is fundamental towards fighting discrimination and supporting inclusiveness in the country’s governance system.
“We applaud President Hakainde Hichilema for appointing Ms. Christine Chama as Human Rights Commissioner. This is a huge step in encouraging the girl child and women to aspire for greater things. The appointment of Ms. Chama is testimony that anyone can occupy influential positions in the land,” Mr. Chisha said.
He is optimistic that women’s voices and people living with disabilities will continue to have a positive influence, as Ms. Chama will positively contribute in advancing human rights in the country.
“This also demonstrates the President’s support to the disability movement. We urge the women and disability movement to rally behind Ms. Chama and give her the necessary support that she needs to succeed in her new role,” he added.
On Monday, President Hakainde Hichilema appointed Christine Chama as Human Rights Commissioner, among several others.
