CCPC seizes over K5000 worth of goods

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has seized goods collectively worth 5, 736 kwacha in Southern Province.
This follows inspections of 32 trading places jointly held by the commission and local councils in Choma and Kalomo districts.
CCPC Public Relations Officer Namukolo Kasumpa says the seized items include “ “carbonated drinks, yogurts, biscuits, juices, crisps, sugar, infant formula and Cosmetics all which had expired, defective or were insufficiently labelled and therefore did not meet the mandatory product information standards set by Section 50 of the Competition and Consumer Protection Act No 24 of 2010 and the Food and Drugs Regulations under the Food and Drugs Act Cap 303 of the Laws of Zambia.”
The Commission says that rural communities are being taken advantage of by unscrupulous traders and CCPC will not allow this conduct to continue and will intensify on inspections in these areas.
And acting Choma Municipal Council Town Clerk, Sam Nyoni has urged all traders in the Province to ensure that they purchase products with a longer shelf life in order to protect the health of consumers
