China gives Zambia US$30m grant for power supply at MFEZ

China has given Zambia a grant amounting to US$30 million meant to expand electricity supply at Multi Facility Economic Zone East (MFEZ) near Lusaka International Airport.

The Chinese Government has also hinted that a grant will be made available to Zambia for the modernizing Mulungushi International Conference Center in Lusaka in readiness for hosting the 2022 Africa Union (AU) Summit.

Briefing journalists in China, Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda said the other US$30 million loan that China has given Zambia is an interest free loan meant for economic and technical corporation.

Mr. Chanda says President Edgar Lungu and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping had bilateral talks where they committed to enhancing economic and political ties.

He says another agreement has been signed between the government and a private company to invest in mineral processing in Zambia by the company that owns Nkana Alloy and Black Mountain.
