Civil servants urged to remain focused

Newly appointed Eastern Province Permanent Secretary has pledged to continue with implementation of various programs and developmental projects that have been executed by her predecessor and other leaders who have been serving prior to her appointment.

Speaking shortly after being sworn in by President Edgar Lungu at State House today, Veronica Mwiche said, having served in the Civil Service for a long time, going to Eastern Province is something exciting.

Mrs. Mwiche also urged all Civil Servants in the country to remain focused as they continue serving the people of Zambia, adding that being employed in the Civil Service is an honor and privilege.

“We are all aware of why we are employed in the Civil Service. When you are employed in the Civil Service, your job is to serve. It is an honor and privilege to be called to serve the people of Zambia,” Mrs. Mwiche stated.

Meanwhile, President Edgar Lungu expressed confidence that Mrs. Mwiche’s experience will positively impact and efficiently re-organize the Provincial Administration.

President Lungu stated that until her appointment, Mrs. Mwiche served in the position of Director-Planning and Information in the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, a situation he says is a commendable achievement in the public service.

“Earlier today, I swore in Mrs. Veronica Makwakwa Mwiche as Permanent Secretary for Eastern Province.”

“Mrs. Mwiche is a seasoned civil servant who has risen through the ranks having worked for 28 years with her first appointment in 1992 being that of Organization Design and Systems Officer in the Management Division at Cabinet Office. Her hard work and commitment to duty earned her the position of Director in the same department in 2002,” President Lungu said.
