The Pharmaceutical Society of Zambia has welcomed the closure of the five institutions by Health Professionals Council of Zambia on the Copperbelt.
Yesterday the Health Professionals Council of Zambia cited and closed down five health facilities in Luanshya, Kitwe and Ndola on the Copperbelt Province for various violations, contrary to the laws of Zambia.
The closed facilities are Mine Clinic in Luanshya, Baluba Shaft Mine Clinic, Copperbelt University Clinic, Sinozam Friendship Hospital and Hilltop Hospital.
Pharmaceutical Society of Zambia President Jerome Kanyika tells Money FM News that the council should continue on this path to bring sanity in the provision of health services to the people.
Mr. Kanyika is also urging hospitals and Clinics that are running pharmacies to employ qualified personnel to manage and control their commodities as prescribed by law.
“The Medicines and Allied Substance Act of 2013 section 26 subsection 1 clearly provides that hospital pharmacy shall be managed by the pharmacist,” he said.
Mr. Kanyika has since implored private or semiprivate institutions operating pharmacies to employ pharmacists and operate within the confines of the law.
