Come up with fixed Bus fare chart – BTDAZ

• Government and stakeholders in the transport sector must come up with a fixed fare char
• Monthly fuel price reviews by Energy Regulation Board will make it difficult for Government and Bus operators to adjust
• It will be fair enough if bus operators come up with bus fares that will benefit them and Commuters.

Bus and Taxi Drivers Association of Zambia has called on Government and stakeholders in the transport sector to come up with a fixed fare chart that will not be affected every time there is a reduction or upward adjustment in fuel prices.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Association National Secretary Sydney Mbewe said the monthly fuel price reviews by Energy Regulation Board (ERB), will make it difficult for Government and Bus operators to adjust fares every month.
Mr. Mbewe stated that it will be fair enough if bus operators come up with bus fares that will benefit them and Commuters.
“We would like to see a system that will enable a fixed formula percentage of increase or decrease of fuel prices,” he said
He added that the reduction in fuel pump prices is good as this will give buyers more buying power to get enough fuel.
“With the reduction of Fuel, the country will experience congestion in filling stations as motorists will encouraged to purchase the commodity in advance,” he stated
Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has reduced pump price of petroleum products by K1.32 ngwee per liter for petrol, and K1.22 ngwee for Diesel, which will now be sold as low Sulphur Gasoil/Diesel, while Kerosene remains unchanged at K15.39.
The prices will be reviewed every month.
