Conductors not recognized by law – CRAZ

The Commuters Rights Association of Zambia (CRAZ) says bus conductors operate illegally as they are not recognized under the Road Transport and Safety Act Number 11 of 2002.
Association President Aaron Kamuti says they are not recognized by the employers of the bus drivers and has called for them to be done away with in the bus businesses.
Speaking on Money FM Business Radio’s ‘Your Consumer Rights’ that airs every Wednesday 9hrs, Mr. Kamuti has also noted that bus conductors and call boys forcing people to get on buses not of their choice is harassment and illegal.
Mr. Kamuti says it is a serious offence under the Road Transport Act further charging that such challenges in the local transports sector are there because of lack of law enforcement.
He says there is need for players in the sector to come together and work in harmony towards a workable solution that is beneficial to operators and customers.
Meanwhile the CRAZ President has charged that proceeds from Bus Stations and Markets in Lusaka fall in the wrong hands and end up not being used for the intended purposes.
He has therefore called for the implementation of the markets and Bus Services act of 2007 to ensure that buses and markets are protected and the challenges that traders and bus operators face are minimized.
