The European Union (EU), through the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Trade Related Facility, has given Zambia 800, 000 Euros to implement trade related interventions in gold mining and agro-based sectors.
The Agro-based sectors includes Aquaculture, Dairy, Pineapples and Rice.
Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Development Permanent Secretary Kayula Siame says the 800, 000 Euro funding will build on the specific activities which have been earmarked in the said intervention areas.
She says the Ministry has noted that there are several other activities that have been lined up and the Ministry will be sharing developments.
“These activities include formalizing twelve mining cooperatives in Rufunsa and Petauke Districts, an exercise which was undertaken in partnership with the Ministry of Mines, procurement Gold Panning and Mining Equipment for the Mining cooperatives,” Ms Siame said.
She says her Ministry has noted that there are several other activities that have been lined up and the Ministry will be sharing developments.
The SADC Trade Related Facility -TRF- project for Zambia is being implemented with the aim to assist Zambia implement commitments made under the SADC protocol on Trade. It has been funded by the EU through SADC at cost of one million four hundred thousand Euro.
The main objective is to attain higher level of compliance and implementation of commitments made to contribute towards sustainable development in the country.
