Zambia telecommunications company network (ZAMTEL) says it is on course in the construction of 1,009 communication towers across the country.
The state owned Telecommunication Company says once completed, the project will increase mobile coverage and access to telecommunication services more especially in rural areas.
China and Zambia in 2017 signed a framework agreement for construction of communication towers (phase two) in the southern African country.
The agreement involves 808 towers, 1,009 2G, 3G and 4G wireless stations, the setting up of a matched transmission network and user access terminals in unserved and under-served areas in order to improve communication services.
Zamtel Acting Corporate Communications Manager Changwe Kabwe tells Money FM News that the project will be completed before the end of 2019.
“We have recorded a lot of project in the implementation of this project. We are confident that we will meet the target of finishing the construction of 2009 towers before the end of 2019,” he said.
He says the telecommunication company is happy with the impact this project is making on the lives of the people in areas where the towers are being installed.
