British High Commissioner to Zambia says government is heading in a positive direction by promoting accountability and embarking on an asset recovery task through various law enforcement agencies in the country.
Nicholas Woolley told Money FM News in an interview that corrupt practices have been affecting different communities and nations around the world as the United Kingdom is also not immune to the scourge.
Mr. Woolley said the United Kingdom has been losing billions of pounds through corrupt practices that have contributed to the government not fully implementing developmental projects both internally and externally.
He added that corruption is a global problem that needs global response if it has to be completely eradicated through capacity building and specialist trainings in various institutions.
“President Hakainde Hichilema has made it clear on his election platform that he wants accountability and wants to see the recovery of assets that have been misappropriated,” Mr. Woolley explained.
He said, “corruption is an issue that affects different communities and nations around the world, and the UK is not immune to that. Some estimates puts the UK at a loss of billions of pounds every year compared to what other nations lose as Zambia is not isolated, since it’s a global problem, it needs global response and that is why the UK government is supporting the Zambian government to fight and tackle corruption.”
