Covid-19 hampers license renewal for Casinos, slot gaming business

Zambia Gaming Association (ZGA) has disclosed that most Casinos and slot gaming business owners have not renewed their licenses this year due to the slowdown of business owing to Covid-19.
Responding to a Press Query sent by Money FM News, Association Public Rations Director Simon Lungu said some of its members have not yet resumed operations, hence not renewing their licenses with the Ministry of Finance.
Mr. Lungu noted that the Pandemic has drastically affected operations by business entities because their operating time is now regulated in line with observing health guidelines.
He said the situation is not only expected to reduce the industry’s contribution to the national coffers but has also led to some job losses in some companies.
“The Zambia Gaming Association (ZGA) is saddened that some of its members have not renewed their licenses this year because of a slump in business owing to effects of Covid-19 in their operations.”
“ZGA Management has observed that some of its members have not resumed operations hence not renewing their licenses with the Ministry of Finance,” Mr. Lungu said.
Mr. Lungu however stated that the Association is optimistic of the good fortunes for the sector next year because it is evident that 2020 will close on a low note with regards to industry performance.
“Casinos and slot gaming business owners which comprise our membership are dependent on their machines fully operating 24/7 but the dawn of Covid-19 has drastically affected business operations by our members because their operating time is now regulated in line with observing health guidelines.”
“ZGA is however advising its members to continue observing the guidelines and not relent so as not to reverse gains made in fighting the disease.”

And Mr. Lungu is confident that the launch of the Economic Recovery Plan by President Edgar Lungu will increase liquidity in the country.
“With the launch of Zambia’s Economic Recovery Plan by the Republican President His Excellency Edgar Chagwa Lungu on Thursday, we are confident that the move will increase liquidity in the country with our sector expected to benefit next year. ZGA is further urging its members to start renewing their licenses for 2021 instead of waiting for January,” he stated.
