The Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition Alliance (CSO-SUN) says it is gratifying to note that cooperating partners have continued supporting nutrition programmes in Zambia.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, CSO-SUN Country Coordinator Mathews Mhuru observed that 80 percent of the country’s nutrition budget is getting funding from the cooperating partners, hence the organization is very grateful for the unwavering support.
Mr. Mhuru said CSO-SUN is happy that cooperating partners have seen the importance of supplementing government efforts by pumping in a lot of money just to improve nutrition among children in different parts of the country.
“We are very grateful to the cooperating partners who have kept on supporting nutrition programmes in Zambia. As you may be aware, if you look at the nutrition budget itself, you would realize that over 80 percent of the nutrition budget is getting support from the cooperating partners.”
“We are very grateful that cooperating partners have really seen the importance of supporting and supplementing government efforts by pumping in a lot of money just to improve nutrition among children in different parts of the country,” Mr. Mhuru said.
He added that even as partners are changing priorities and focusing on other areas such as curbing the spread of Covid-19, the organization hopes nutrition can still remain one of their top areas of support.
“We are very happy and we are only hoping that even as donors are changing priority or focusing on other areas such as Covid-19, nutrition can still remain one of their top areas of support,” he added.
Mr. Mhuru’s comment comes in the wake of the recent revelation by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) that it will spend 50 million US Dollars on the scaling up nutrition project in Mongu district, Western Province in order to reduce stunting among children in the area.
