The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) has advised government to come up with a significant financial investment in the implementation of the Seventh National Development Plan.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, CSPR Vice Board Chairperson Partner Siabutuba says the way the 7NDP is being implemented shows that the country will not be able to achieve its intended goals.
Mr. Siabutuba says one of the objectives in the 7NDP is to eradicate poverty lamenting that the poverty levels in the country have remained high despite the plan being implemented for three years now.
He has also cited the reduction in funding to social sectors in the 2019 national budget as an indication that it will be difficult to achieve the 7NDP’s goals.
The board member says there is need for government to make full potential of the agriculture sector if the economic diversification agenda is to be achieved under the plan.
He says government should make full potential of agriculture sector by investing in all areas of the sector such as animal husbandry and irrigation infrastructure.
Mr. Siabutuba has since urged government to put the priorities of the 7NDP right if the objectives are to be achieved.
