In the spirit of solidarity and humanity, the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zambia has donated 20 by 25Kg bags of mealie meal towards the cyclone affected countries of Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
This came to light when the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU), National Coordinator Chanda Kabwe, received the donation from the Kabanana site and service based centre, on Tuesday.
Mr. Kabwe said he was grateful to the church for fulfilling the doctrine of the church in their demonstration of love to the affected countries, adding that it was more blessed to give than to receive.
He added that the church had the mandate to ensure peace and help the needy in society. Mr. Kabwe also commended the Apostolic Faith Mission for being the first Church to come on board in offering their assistance to the affected countries.
He further added that the government of President Edgar Lungu appreciates the role of the church in national unity and peace and hence would continuously engage the church.
And speaking at the same event, Apostolic Faith Mission representative, Elder Kenny Nyimbili, said the church was touched by the suffering being experienced in the three countries that were affected by the cyclone Idai and hence the need to offer their assistance.
On March 14, 2019, cyclone Idai made land fall in Beira, Mozambique and affected not only Mozambique but Malawi and Zimbabwe also.
The disaster left a trail of destruction which included loss of human lives of about 700 people, 2,361 injured, 190,920 internally displaced and 1,912,930 affected.
