State owned power utility firm Zesco says the importation of electricity from South Africa may delay because the two electricity companies are still finalizing paper work.
Last week Zesco indicated importation of 300 megawatts of power from South Africa was due to start effective 1st October, 2019.
But ZESCO Acting Managing Director Webster Musonda told Journalists in Siavonga today during a tour of the Kariba Dam in the company of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy that the deal is yet to be completed.
Money FM Staffer Hope Chanda reports that Zesco is in the process of revising upward the eight hours load shedding schedule following a further reduction in electricity generation at Kariba Dam to 290 megawatts on average per day from 500 megawatts of electricity.
Mr. Musonda explains that the situation may worsen as the targeted importation of 300 Megawatts from South Africa’s Eskom maybe delayed than expected due to procedural challenges.
Zambia is due to start importing power from ESKOM at a cost of $13.5 million with the inclusion of transmission charges the cost will go up to $21 million.
