An Economist has advised government to stick to the 2022 national budget as it implements the financial plan, which came into effect on 1st January, this year.
Speaking in an interview with Money FM News, Dr. Patrick Chileshe said government will need to raise adequate resources required for implementation of the financial plan in order to achieve all the objectives it has set in the national budget.
Dr. Chileshe stated that government needs to heighten revenue mobilization through Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) and other revenue collecting agencies which contribute to the Treasury.
“The best way to implement a budget is to remain stuck to your plan and the best government can do this is to ensure that it is able to raise adequate resources because quite a number of resources are needed to ensure that it achieves all the objectives it set itself in the budget.”
“So there is need for rigorous revenue mobilization on the part of government through Zambia Revenue Authority and other revenue collecting agencies which contribute to the Treasury,” Dr. Chileshe stated.
He further urged spending agencies to adhere to the budget authorization limits.
“There is also need for government to stick to spending limits as budgeted for and also to ensure that spending agencies adhere to the budget authorization limits,” he advised.
