ECZ reschedules Voter Registration

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has rescheduled the date for the registration of voter exercise from 28th of October 2020 to 9th November 2020.
Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka, ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Patrick Nshindano says the decision has been made in order not to disenfranchise the Citizenry following extension on issuance of National Registration Cards (NRC’s) by Ministry of Home Affairs from 30th October to 5th November 2020.
“In order not to disenfranchise our people, the commission has again found it imperative to reschedule the dates of registration of voters which was schedule to commence tomorrow Wednesday 28th of October 2020 to 30th November 2020,” he said.
Mr. Nshindano stated the rescheduling is at a great expense to the Commission’s timeline of 12th August for the polls.
He however noted that in a case that the issuance of NRC’S is not concluded, the Commission will “unfortunately” proceed with the Voter registration as scheduled.
Meanwhile, Mr. Nshindano said the ongoing online pre-voter registration will continue and close on 20th of November 2020.
“So please utilize and take full advantage of the pre online voter registration,” he noted.
He disclosed that the Commission has so far recorded 130,000 Users on its Voter Registration platform which he describes as a low number.
