Efforts to curb smuggling are paying dividends – ZRA

The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) says the Authority’s efforts to curb smuggling are paying dividends as can be seen from the over 50 Trucks were recently impounded with goods worth K43 million kwacha in taxes.
Commissioner General, Kingsley Chanda says ZRA will continue donating smuggled and seized goods to the vulnerable in society because they have realized that when they auction the items, the same smugglers who imported them buy the same goods from the Authority.
Mr. Chanda was speaking when he donated cooking oil to the Zambia Correctional Service, University Teaching Hospital (UTH), David Kaunda Secondary School, St John Paull Hospital, Zambia Police Sikanze and Beit cure hospitals.
Speaking on behalf of the Zambia Correctional Services, Deputy Comissioner General, Lloyd Chilundika said the cooking oil will go a long way in mitigating the huge bill of feeding the over 22 000 inmates in Zambia.
Recently, the Zambia Revenue Authority anti-smuggling squad has intercepted 34 tankers laden with cooking oil which was either wrongly classified at importation or just smuggled.
