Expansion of Great North Road ‘yet to commence’

The Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure says expansion works for the Great North Road have not commenced despite ground breaking ceremony being held.
Ministry Permanente Secretary Charles Mushota has told Money FM News in an interview that construction works of the Great North Road into a duo- carriage way has not commenced due to failure to conclude the financial closer by government and the partners.
Eng. Mushota said people confuse this with the Lusaka 400 Road Project that goes up to Kabangwe area for the expansion of the Great North Road.
He however said discussions on the expansion of the road are still under way and that government and the partners are yet to reach an agreement on the way forward.
The Permanente Secretary further said the two contractors that were awarded the contract to work on the Chinsali-Nakonde road has moved on site.
He said the contractors are working on creating a diversion to remove traffic on the main road into the diversion so they can start working on the main road.
