President Edgar Lungu has urged newly appointed presidential Press Aide to help end the trend of fake news in the country which negatively impacts the development of the country.
President Lungu says falsehoods in the media are unbecoming and retrogressive especially in the wake of social media.
The Head of State was speaking during the swearing in of the new Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Isaac Chipampe in Lusaka today.
Mr. Chipampe replaces Amos Chanda who tendered his resignation earlier this month to join the private sector.
The New Press aide has emphasized the importance of relaying formal information to the public for the benefit of the country further pledged to work with relevant institutions to ensure that official information is given to the public.
He was until his appointment, Director for Press and Media Development at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Mr. Chipampe previously served as Managing Editor of the government owned Daily Mail.
