French Ambassador to Zambia Sylvain Berger says his Embassy this year wants to amplify his country’s bilateral relations with Zambia by building an amphitheater as a way of supporting tourism through arts and culture.
Speaking this morning when he paid a courteous call on Minister of Tourism and Arts Dr. Charles Banda, the diplomat says the two countries have enjoyed their diplomatic relations in the last 55 years and have worked very closely to support each other even in areas of economic development.
He points at the support that the French government has been giving to the ministry through the National Arts Council.
Mr. Berger said his embassy has also supported initiatives of conservation in the Kansanka National Park, home to the world’s largest mammal migration.
And the Minster said he would make every effort for the theatre to be situated in a centralized place and will soon engage the management at Lusaka Play House to have it in such an area.
Dr. Banda said the theatre will be used as a centre of arts and culture and other tourism related activities that will help grow the sector.
He said this would help popularize arts and culture hence his office welcomes the initiative.
The Minister said his ministry has worked very well with the French Embassy in many areas of development.
